The first thing I noticed was how solid the car seat felt. It’s a little on the heavier side but it’s obviously built to last. It’s large enough to give the child room to move around and yet really doesn’t take up much space in the car. It’s also built to protect your child from side impact collisions and keeps their head, neck, and spine aligned in the proper position.

The Britax Frontier 85 Car Seat has a high density comfort form to make the seat very soft. After all, your child will not want to sit in her seat if it’s not comfortable. And the last thing I want in the morning is fighting to get her buckled up. There’s also Comfort Pads on the upper parts of the straps which we positioned on her shoulders as well as a belly pad.

Overall, the major advantages far outweigh the minor disadvantages I listed.  Unless it is simply too big or too expensive for consideration, the Britax Frontier 85 Car Seat is a superb choice if your “baby” is already a big girl or boy! Kids under 2 years old or under 25 pounds should really be kept rear-facing for safety.  After that, the Frontier 85 Car Seat really is the last seat your child will ever need and is almost unmatched for fitting big kids in either the harness or booster.

Just got our Frontier 85 – love this big kid seat! Sturdy, plush, nicely finished. It did take me a few tries to figure out which installation method was best (be sure to try all – in our ’06 Prius it is currently LATCH plus top tether, later long-belt-path for when daughter is heavier), but now it’s as solid as our Boulevard. My daughter is turning six in three months – about 43 inches and a shade under 40 lbs.
